Hogwarts House Stereotypes

I love Harry Potter. Like, hard-core obsession LOVE. And, like any Potterhead, I get offended when people talk trash about my own house ( mine is Ravenclaw, comment which one your in! ).  So, today I am talking about the stereotypes people give the houses of Hogwarts. Now, without further ado, here are the stereotypes that the poor houses get ( mostly Gryffindor, because the whole fandom turns their noses up at it. ).

  • Gryffindor- People often view Gryffindor as the 'Will fight you' house.' Most people under the age of twelve are like, "I'm in Gryffindor, the best house there is!". But is it really? We can't deny that Gryffindor really is a pretty cool house, and they aren't just brave, as most people view them as. Gryffindors are daring, often depicted as humorous. They are reckless, and let's say they have some nerve to spare. But, just because they are called brave, doesn't mean they jump into perilous situations without thought. Most children love Gryffindor to the ends of the earth, and the fandom is no different. According to Huffington Post, 57 percent of people wanted to be in Gryffindor, but only four percent were actual Gryffindors. Wow. Gryffindor's element is fire, which I think suits the red and gold house. There house emblem is the lion, which I have absolutely no complaints about, however Hufflepuff's I have something to share...

  • Hufflepuff- Hufflepuff ( in the books at least ) is often viewed as the underdog. But there are bucket loads of Potterheads who want to be quirky, so they call themselves Hufflepuffs. But, I'd say that they are a pretty dope house. They have only had one sour member that we know of ( Darn Zacharias Smith ), which is pretty admirable. They are not, as most people consider them, the 'sweet' house. Hufflepuffs are just as brave as a Gryffindor, but not as boastful. They are honest and the hard-working house. There animal is the badger, not the coolest animal, but badgers are pretty mean, contrary to literally, the houses entire message. This is the only part that irritates me. Badgers are known for not giving a poop. They are pretty ruthless, and there are tons of memes of how they 'taught Chuck Norris everything he knows.' And Helga Hufflepuff was supposed to be the peacemaker!

  • Slytherin- Ah, yes, the 'evil' house. For crying out loud, Slytherins are not EVIL. They have Regulus Black, Slughorn, everyone's favorite tear-jerker Severus Snape, and might I add, Merlin himself was a Slytherin. Slytherins are not, as people assume, evil, but they are determined and ambitious. Although their house color, green, is often a symbol for greed, this does not make the house evil. We can't deny that Slytherins often discriminate against mud-bloods, some are just traditional, and like the pure-blood family. The house emblem is the serpent, and a lot of people think evil when they think of a red-eyed silver serpent. But, however intimidating the Slytherin serpent can be, Slytherins are really pretty good, cunning people. And they are one of the most competitive houses, and everyone loves a good competition. They are a bit like Gryffindor, but while Gryffindor kinda jumps right in, Slytherin is more 'Look before you leap'.

  • Ravenclaw- And finally, we move on to my own house. Honestly, I naturally defend my own house, but I am reaching deep down looking for negativity towards Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw house is often considered the nerdiest, but that's not a bad thing! A lot of people know Ravenclaws as stuck-up know-it-alls, but again, Ravenclaws are often eager to share their knowledge with others, giving them the impression that they are stuck-up. They have an awesome security system, asking a difficult riddle to get in the common room. There could be a Ravenclaw that slacks off academically, but is very creative. Ravenclaws don't have to be smart in every area. But there is one thing about Ravenclaw that really makes me want to scream. The movies RUINED the Ravenclaw animal. We are not ravens, everyone! The Warner Bros. obviously ignored the fact that the books clearly state multiple times that the Ravenclaw house symbol is the eagle. Another thing, our colors are not silver and navy, however blue and bronze. If I could change one thing about the movies, the colors and animal of Ravenclaw.
